On 11 January, NN hosted a masterclass focused on the integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in day-to-day investment management. The SDGs were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 and relate to poverty, health care, equality, climate change, and other societal challenges – and are set for 2030.
The masterclass was organised by the Dutch Association of Investors for Sustainable Development (VBDO). It was the second session in a series of three masterclasses on the SDGs which are organised in cooperation with asset managers, asset owners and SDG experts. NN is one of the main sponsors of the series.
While the SDGs have been agreed upon by all governments, their success relies on collaboration by all actors: governments, businesses, civil society and investors. The SDGs offer investment opportunities and challenges to the investment community.
Willem Schramade, portfolio manager impact investment at NN Investment Partners was one of the speakers. The title of his presentation was ‘A practical approach to investing in the SDGs’. Willem explained how he uses a tagging approach to assess exposure to the SDGs and identify opportunities to invest in the SDGs. Other speakers were Romie Goedicke, senior expert green economy at International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Timothée Jaulin, associate at Amundi.
The session was attended by more than 90 participants from financial institutions, government and civil society organisations. The third masterclass will be held on 8 February, focusing on achieving SDG results and integrating them in active ownership activities.
