The Waste Transformers, a Dutch company specializing in manufacturing and on-site installation of biogas generators, has secured a €5 million capital injection from investor Invest International. This investment is part of a funding round totalling €10 million. Invest International aims to stimulate international activities of Dutch companies. The investment will be utilized to finance The Waste Transformers’ international expansion, focusing on local processing of food waste and converting it into clean energy and natural fertilizers.
The company’s innovative modular biodigesters, named ‘Waste Transformers,’ empower organizations, including hospitals, football stadiums, supermarkets, and hotels, to manage and convert their food waste on-site, adding value to the local businesses. Globally, a staggering 2.2 billion tons of food is wasted annually, contributing to 30% of all greenhouse gas emissions. The Waste Transformers have emerged as leaders in addressing this issue, offering solutions to convert food waste into biogas, heat, and natural fertilizers on-site, with installations at prominent locations like the Johan Cruijff ArenA and various places in Africa.
On-site food waste processing
The modular Waste Transformers provide businesses with a sustainable solution for their own food waste. The generated energy is fed back into the building, creating a closed-loop system. Moreover, the nutrients from the food waste act as a natural liquid fertilizer, showing promising results in growth trials as a sustainable and local alternative to polluting chemical fertilizers.
The fundraising for The Waste Transformers was supported by NovAzure, a London-based advisory firm specializing in fast-tracking innovation and accelerating the transition towards NetZero and Benvalor, a boutique law firm specialised in venture capital transactions, with a strong focus on advising impact driven entrepreneurs and impact investors.
Supporting growth through strategic partnerships
The collaboration with Invest International marks another significant milestone for The Waste Transformers, propelling the organization into the next phase of growth. Invest International’s extensive international network and commitment to impactful projects align seamlessly with The Waste Transformers’ mission to make a tangible difference in the realm of food waste.
“Our Waste Transformers make one of the most impactful individual contributions to reducing environmental pollution. The support and endorsement from Invest International, with a team of seasoned professionals, help us expand our operations,” says Lara van Druten, CEO, and founder of The Waste Transformers.
Joost Oorthuizen, CEO of Invest International, adds, “We look forward to supporting this Dutch technology and advancing The Waste Transformers’ activities. They are truly an organization where impact can be made, working intelligently on food waste processing, circularity, and clean energy. This is a compelling reason for us to support this initiative as it genuinely benefits both people and the planet.”
